Have you seen the viral savory s’mores boards taking over the internet? Tiny rounds of Brie, roasted to melty perfection, smushed between two crackers, with jam, salami, or chocolate?
As, definitively, a savory-over-sweet person and someone who lists their love of cheese in their actual bio, I absolutely had to try this. And yes, it’s as good as it sounds in every way.
My thinking, though, was, why go all-savory when the traditional s’mores is classically perfect on its own? I highly recommend including both savory and sweet options to cover every single dang base.
You’ll only need a few simple things:
A source of fire. I love, love, love my mini tabletop fire pit and use it way more than you’d expect. You can use a regular fire pit or bonfire, too.
Cheese
Crackers
Sweet & savory add-ins and -ons
Here’s what I did:
Cheeses
Brie bites, of course, which I always have on hand anyway, for emergencies. And like, fun.
Chunks of smoked Gouda, which melted perfectly and paired blissfully with salami, fresh berries, and dark chocolate.
Babybel, which we also always have on hand and are perfectly portioned for easy roasting.
Spreads
Jam—fig and raspberry are my go-to’s
Honey—I typically use hot honey, because I need to feel alive
Sweets
Traditional marshmallows, though you could get fancy ones, with fancy flavors. I love fancy.
Squares of chocolate. Dark, milk, white, almond, matcha, raspberry… Go ham, ma’am.
Fresh fruit, like raspberries, pitted cherries, sliced pear, sliced apple.
I included a few cute little fall-inspired shaped chocolates, too, for fun. I love fancy, and I love fun, too.
Crackers
Graham crackers. Don’t reinvent the wheel.
Other favorite crackers, like Raincoast Crisps, Club crackers, etc.
Tips for Roasting
Cheese… and marshmallows. This may surprise you, but they’re not exactly the same, right? The cheese will get sort of sweaty and a little black, rather than roasty-toasty brown like a marshmallow. My best tip is to keep it out of the intensely direct flame so that you warm it evenly and internally, ensuring melt throughout. Then char up the edges if you like!
Perfect Combinations
Salami, smoked Gouda, preserves
Dark chocolate, Brie, strawberries
Hot honey, apple, Babybel
Marshmallow, white chocolate, raspberries
Have you tried cheese s’mores yet? What other perfect combos am I missing?
